January 2025

Nintendo would be very stupid to not use hall effect thumbsticks in the Switch 2, considering the drama and lawsuits around stick drift on the first console.

My local GameStop is closing. I’ll miss driving past the classic Halo 3 mural every day.

Gorgeous sunset tonight. And I kinda love the Meta Ray Bans color rendering.

8BitDo has a new smartphone clip that works with their Micro and Zero2 gamepads. Looks like a great option for retro gaming with Delta!

Got a set of Moondrop’s Honkai Star Rail collab earbuds. They sound great, maybe not quite AirPods Pro 2 great, but pretty fantastic for $100. And that iridescent finish is just beautiful.

December 2024

✅ LTT Commuter Backpack secured.

hoHoYo, merry Christmas!

Over an hour into the Steam winter sale and the site is still broken. Calm down people, the games aren’t going anywhere.

Anbernic’s GBA clone, the RG34XX, is up for order on their official store. I’ll definitely be picking one of these up, but I’ll wait for the 3rd-party AliExpress sellers once it’s got a bit of a discount and free shipping.

Moondrop’s new Honkai Star Rail collab wireless earbuds look too good to pass up. I’m thinking these will end up being my dedicated gaming-on-the-go headphones for my Steam Deck and Retroid Pocket 5.

November 2024

My Retroid Pocket 5 is here! This thing absolutely lives up to the hype. The OLED screen is just stellar.

Not terribly excited by this year’s initial LTT Store sales, but I needed a screwdriver and a few water bottles anyway so now is as good of a time as any to pick those up.

The Nintendo DS in 2024: The Nintendo DS turns 20 today. I never owned the original model when I was younger, but a few friends of mine did. I was always fascinated by the hardware, but very few of the games my friends were playing like Mario, Pokémon, and Nintendogs actually interested me. I was busy playing Halo and Call …

Valve has announced a new limited edition white Steam Deck. That’s it. No other changes. I still think the transparent black model looks better.

mini mini

Voted.

Retro Game Corps’ first impressions video on the Retroid Pocket 5 just went up on YouTube. Looks like it’s living up to the hype, and I’m super excited to get mine in a few weeks!

Could this São Paulo Grand Prix get any sillier? Actually, at this point, it very well could.

October 2024

Turning the AC on. October 29th. 🥵

The new Mac mini is adorable! It might be time to replace my M1.

New Apple keyboards still have the awful arrow key layout.

🔗 If the new Xbox wireless headset has Dolby Atmos “now included at no extra cost,” why is it more expensive now?

📺 Watching Love Live! Superstar!! s3e2 "TomaKanoTe"

🔗 Red Dead Redemption is up for pre-order on Steam for $50. Classic Rockstar. I’ll wait for it to hit 10 bucks.

Sounds like Ryujinx has now been shut down by Nintendo just like Yuzu. What a shame.

September 2024

Happy birthday Ayaka! ❄️

🤔 Series 10 watch died in under 5 hours today. Hope that’s not a recurring issue.

I don’t think McDonalds was ready for the Genshin Impact collab to explode like it did. I’ve been on hold for an hour trying to contact support so I can get my redemption code.

📱 Happy iOS 18 day!

A year ago today, I rode Japan’s Shinkansen for the first time, from Numazu to Kyoto. I want to go back.

🔗 The Grand Tour: One for the Road Hats off to Jeremy, James, and Richard. Thanks for the many years of entertainment (and controversy).

🤢 The Oreo-flavored Coca-Cola is not good.

After much deliberation, I’ve decided on the iPhone 16 Pro in black, downsizing from the 15 Pro Max I’ve had for the last year. I’m definitely going to miss the extra screen real estate, but won’t miss the harder-to-hold phone itself.

I’ve joined the iOS 18 party now that the RC is out. Large icons mode is 🔥

Jet Black is back!

Plot twist! As announced on Twitter, the Retroid Pocket 5 will now come with 8GB of RAM and launch with Android 13. No idea if this was just a marketing ploy or if they actually made something happen behind the scenes, but a much welcome upgrade nonetheless.

🔗 Retroid Pocket 5 full specs and pricing is up on the website. Pre-orders start Monday. Android 10 means Yuzu won’t run on it, which is a bit of a bummer, though Retroid says Android 13 will be coming later. I’ll likely order one of these even just for GameCube/PS2/Dreamcast and back, that 1080p …

Big Boy rolled through town! So cool to see.

More details on the Retroid Pocket 5: Snapdragon 865 5.5" 1080p OLED 5000mAH battery 280g weight Gotta say, this runaround from Retroid is getting old. Just give us the specs, price, and release date already.

My Logitech G Pro X Superlight started flaking out on me, so I caved and bought a Superlight 2. Here’s hoping they’ve improved the build quality on this one. And I got the black one this time, never buying a white mouse again.. I’m tired of a yellow mouse.

🔗 Scratchpad is a new app from Sindre Sorhus that acts as a single-view scratchpad for any text that you need to hold onto. It’s like a simpler version of Tot with one page, and syncs between your iPhone, iPad, and Mac via iCloud. Grab it now while it’s free!

For once in my life, I got lucky with the weapon banner and pulled signature weapons for both Mualani and Kazuha! Now to start saving for Kinich.

August 2024

🔗 Retroid Pocket 5 color options These look so good! I’m torn between the GameCube and the Super Famicom colors. The SFC with a transparent backplate would look pretty slick, too.

Got lucky on the weapon banner. 😎

🔗 Retroid Pocket 5 teased If this has an OLED screen, I’ll be all over it.

Sky Cipher

Hyped for Natlan!

🔗 Fate/stay night REMASTERED It only took 20 years.

Fate/stay night REMASTERED out next week! Hollow Ataraxia has also been announced as a follow-up.

July 2024

🌦️ Surprise rain shower!

🤦‍♂️ McLaren

1-2 for McLaren! Great job Lando & Oscar! #F1 🇭🇺

Go figure, right after I buy the Gamesir G8 they release the G8 Plus. I’ll probably just return my G8 since the Plus model works with Switch too. https://www.gamesir.hk/products/g8plus-bluetooth-mobile-controller

🧡 KyoAni

This is the first year in a long time that I’ve had no desire to install an iOS beta. There just isn’t enough there to be worth dealing with the usual bugs and awful battery life.

What a deal!

Whoa, someone wrote a Jellyfin client for Switch. Gave it a try, it works really well! https://gbatemp.net/threads/switchfin-jellyfin-client-for-nintendo-switch.639930/

Happy birthday Yohane 😈

RG35XXSP is here. Definitely made the right choice going with the transparent blue!

🥲 Time to watch the Hibike! Euphonium finale and try to hold back the waterworks.

June 2024

🔗 muOS 2405.1 Refried Beans dropped today, with added support for the RG35XXSP!

🏎️ Pole for Lando! Let’s go! #F1 🇪🇸

This car is all I’ve ever wanted in Forza Horizon.

🔗 Odin 2 Mini reviews seem to reinforce what I figured would be the case. It looks to be a great little handheld, but not worth buying if you already have have an Odin 2. I think it would be the perfect companion to a Steam Deck if you like the smaller size.

My first Anbernic handheld has arrived. I’m in love with this little thing already.

🔗 Kingdom Hearts is out on Steam today. Regular price $99.99 for the full pack, on sale for $68.99 until June 27.

🎮 Turns out I bought both the RG35XXH and RG35XXSP since I found a few coupon deals for a nice discount. We’ll see which one sticks, or if I end up finding different use cases for both of them.

🏎️ Put together the new Aston Martin Formula 1 LEGO set today while watching the Canadian GP qualifying. It’s pretty much the same as the McLaren set, with a few differences in the aero bits. Nice to see they paid attention to those little details.

🔗 Anbernic RG35XX SP: An Almost Beginner’s Guide I’m writing this about two weeks after the SP officially released, and I’ve already seen multiple reports of users' batteries swelling up and failing. It’s a bit of a bummer to hear about battery issues with the RG35XXSP. Still, …

My Hatsune Miku Secret Lair showed up today, no shipping notification or anything. I got the Elvish Mystic bonus card, though it sounds like some on Reddit are reporting that Snapcaster Mage is a possibility too! Wish they would have just put that in the pack itself instead of being random.

Managed to get both Clorinde and Sethos today!

🎮 3DS emulation is here on iOS with the latest update to Folium, which also runs GBA and DS games. It sounds like 3DS performance is not great, however, thanks to JIT not being supported on App Store apps. Maybe this will change with iOS 18? Please, Apple?

☕ Saturday morning, time for coffee, KonoSuba, and Yuru Camp.

May 2024

❄️ Ayaka still carrying me through Abyss floor 12.

🍱 Naka-Kon was amazing! I can now say I’ve actually met a Love Live seiyuu. Thank you Aikyan for coming all the way out to the midwest for us!

April 2024

🥱 Who’s ready for another riveting episode of The Max Verstappen Show tomorrow?

iGBA is out now on the iOS App Store! The first of hopefully many emulators. I would love to see RetroArch here soon!

☕ Saturday morning coffee & anime. Starting KonoSuba season 3 today!

It’s April, which means we’re about to begin one of the greatest anime seasons ever. 3 of my top 5 favorite anime will be getting a new season, among some other heavy hitters returning this spring. Hibike! Euphonium season 3 Yuru Camp season 3 KonoSuba season 3 Slime season 3 Irregular …

March 2024

Dipping my toes into the world of IEMs with a pair of Moondrop May headphones. They’re super comfortable, sound fantastic, and the included USB-C DSP cable is really handy. It works great with my various Apple devices, Steam Deck, and PC. Unfortunately it does not work with the Nintendo Switch …

National Treasure 3’s Chances Get A Blunt Response From Nicolas Cage No, there is no National Treasure 3. If you want to find treasure, don’t look at Disney, okay? It’s not there. Nic Cage is the real national treasure.

Beets: The command line music management tool I’ve been looking for. I recently moved all my media to a new Unraid server; this ought to do the trick to get my music library back into shape.

February 2024

Got to try Vision Pro for a 30 minute demo today. Passthrough was excellent, but I could still see a lot of haziness especially further out. Field of view was a lot narrower than I expected. Text was super sharp, much better than other headsets I’ve used before. Eye tracking was spot on, but I …

Seeing all this discussion about Vision Pro kinda makes me just want to get a Quest 3, at least until the second iteration of Apple’s headset is out and the price comes down.

Liyue Harbor looking good for Lantern Rite!

Project Tapestry: With Project Tapestry, we’ll create a universal, chronological timeline for iOS for any data that’s publicly available on the Internet. A service-independent overview of your social media and information landscape. Point the app toward your services and feeds, then scroll …

I made the 6 hour drive out to Chicago to go to the Genshin Impact concert. It was an incredible experience getting to hear the music of Teyvat from a live orchestra! I also put together a playlist from the concert which you can find here.

December 2023

I picked up the Horizon Zero Dawn LEGO set on a Black Friday deal, and what a neat build this is. The model makes for a great display piece.

Shibuya

August 2023

It’s pretty great driving the biggest, baddest EV in town.

July 2023

Decided to use some of my Microsoft reward points on the Starfield limited edition controller. Love this one, look at those clear triggers!

Mouth of the cave.

Crossing the Ohio, Part 2.

Crossing the Ohio.

Play well.

June 2023

Iced chai is lovely on a hot day like today.

Starfield looks like a game I’m going to sink a ridiculous amount of time into. September 6th can’t come soon enough!

Silver Wolf finally showed up after losing the 50/50 to Welt, and 70 more warps.

A notification popped up on my iPad saying that it was no longer being backed up, so I did a bit of investigation into my iCloud storage. Turns out that Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail are backing up their entire contents to iCloud, which seems pretty unnecessary. That’s 60+GB between my iPhone …

New Apple things I’m most excited for: Interactive widgets. Should have been there from the start. StandBy. Time to buy a bunch of charging stands to place around the home! Journal app. I’ve been looking for a solution to replace Day One, looks like this will fill that gap perfectly for …

Great day for a roadeo.

Wild storm clouds today. The rain was very welcome!

May 2023

I finally got around to finishing and hanging The Great Wave set. It’s a work of art! (pun intended) I really love the clever parts usage in the details of the wave and the people in the boats. I’m not even an art or history buff, but I’m super happy with this set. It weighs a bit more than I’d like …

Wyrmwood x Dispel elemental dice arrived today! 🤩 I opted for the iridescent space dice and a cherry dice vault. They’re every bit as pretty as I hoped.

April 2023

A couple friends and I have been playing Across the Obelisk online together lately. Think Slay the Spire, but multiplayer co-op. A bit overwhelming if you try to play all four characters by yourself, but we’ve been having a blast working together. There are lots of characters to unlock and a …

My weekend art project has been acquired!

Well, I caved. I thought having Japanese symbols on my keyboard was a novel idea, and it fit with the KAT Explosion theme well. Turns out it’s not great in practicality. It works fine for gaming, and okay for typing (and I’m not an expert touch typist, so that doesn’t help), but I ran into problems …

Great to see Starship and Super Heavy booster make it off the pad today! That launch had some major Kerbal Space Program vibes complete with a cartwheeling, then exploding rocket.

Tailscale has been a lifesaver for me since my ISP stopped offering a dedicated IPv4 address, and they’ve just announced new usage tiers and pricing for both personal and enterprise plans. Most notably, the free tier has been expanded to 100 devices. My use case still fit within the old plan, …

My little write-only Twitter app that posts a few times a week to a mostly-private account was suspended from API access today. Indeed the end of an era. On to Micro.blog and Mastodon!

Just finished watching the first episode (movie?) of Oshi no Ko. Oh. My. Goodness. I don’t know what I was expecting from this show, but surely not what that prologue gave us. Do yourself a favor. Don’t read the synopsis or anything, just go into this one completely blind. It’s …

Ai’s Eyes

Looks like my almost-but-not-quite-local game store ordered a few too many March of the Machine prerelease kits. If you’re in Des Moines, go give Jay’s CD and Hobby some business this weekend.

Our first electric buses have arrived! I’m excited to get to drive these around town pretty soon.

Federico Viticci’s S-GPT shortcut just got an update to version 1.0.2, bringing some nice new features. I’m looking forward to experimenting with passthrough mode to integrate S-GPT into other shortcuts.
